Well, first of all I would like to apologize for my lack of posts lately. School started last week and my professors aren't wasting anytime- I had papers to write on the first day in all 5 classes!! Thank goodness I'm starting to get back in the swing of things... hopefully I will learn how to manage my time, and can squeeze in a daily blog or two!

I am so excited to introduce you all to Sue Rock Originals! It is a non profit organization specializing in creating new and exciting garments from donated materials from high end designers such as Marc Jacobs and Liz Claiborne. Their volunteers create gorgeous shrugs, ponchos, and so much more! All funds go towards domestic violence survivors. It really amazes me that there are so many fashion organizations that are passionate about more than just creating great clothes. There are tons of compassionate people in the fashion industry- it makes me love it even more!

Textured Tights= Perfect Legwear for Fall

Everywhere I look for fall clothes, I see short skirts and dresses. I can't help but wonder, Fall is COLD (especially in Chicago), who in their right mind would wear those!? But there IS a way to wear them! The answer is with textured tights! Stockingirl.com has tons of great, thick tights. The quality of their tights is amazing. Every time I buy cheap hosiery from Target or Forever 21, I get one use out of them, they always get holes in the toes, yuck! It's definitely worth it to pay a little extra for some legwear that lasts! There are so many choices of patterns and colors, it's hard to just pick a few favorites.

With all this talk about fall fashions, it seems I've forgotten one very important topic: the basics! Fall is all about layers, and it all starts with a great foundation. I've found the greatest site with good quality basics, at unbeatable prices. Forget American Apparel, Americas Basics is the new go-to place for simple layering pieces. They have a great selection of colors, and a section of mix and match items that are 4 for $30! I advise to go a size larger than your usual, they tend to run a little snug.

This one's for all the clearance rack shoppers, like myself. The sale section is always the first place I look every time I go shopping. But right now, the sale rack is full of summer clothes- when I'm looking to update my fall wardrobe! Here are a few tips on how incorporate summer clearance items into your outfits for fall.1. Summery Nighties- Stores like American Eagle have really cute nighties that can be worn with a cardigan, leggings, and boots for a comfy fall look. This one is on sale for $19.95 at ae.com.

How To: The "Lauren" Hair-do

Back in May, I cut my long hair off in the "Victoria Beckham" style. We are now approaching September, and I have yet to have another haircut (not even a trim!). I'm at that awkward stage, where I'm transitioning from a short style to growing it out.

I've developed a quick way to style my unruly 'do!

Follow these easy steps, and you'll have the "Lauren" 'do too!

1. I wash my hair with any basic shampoo (I like TRESemmé).

2. I use Philosophy's Amazing Grace conditioner, let it set for a minute, and rinse.

3. I towel dry to get annoying, excess moisture out. Then pull it back in a pony. (I use this time to get dressed, apply my makeup, etc.)

4. I use a blow dryer, on cool, to completely dry the rest of my hair. The cool air reduces frizz, and is less irritating in this summer heat.

5. I use my Caruso curlers (They are amazing, if you haven't tried them!) to add random curls in my hair.

6. After removing the curlers, I scrunch my hair to create loose waves.

7. To finish I spray Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment Spray all over my head.

And voila! The finished product...
Too bad I went out, and it started pouring rain! Thank God I had a hair tie in my purse for a quick fix!

It's Moving Time!

It's that time again, back to school! That means time for me to go back to Chicago! I've been living with my parents this summer, in a dreaded suburb of Detroit. Now it's time for me to move back to the Windy City in my new studio apartment! Eek! I'm so excited! I will take tons of pictures of my new place, I can't wait to show all of you!

Oh and yesterday the bedding I ordered from Target.com came in! It's so cute! What do you think?

Fall Must Have: Denim Leggings

I was at Forever 21 this weekend and bought two new fabulous pairs of denim leggings. I love them because they look like real jeans, not some gaudy stretchy pants from your grandma's closet. They are the perfect option for tight, fall boots. I don't know about you girls, but I have big calves and can never fit my legs into a pair of boots with jeans on too! Now I can! Ladies, if you see denim leggings anywhere, I suggest picking about a dozen pairs up! Believe me, you'll thank yourself later!

I Love Shopping in a Bad Economy!

Has anyone else noticed how many great deals there are out there right now? Bad economy= great shopping!

I went shopping today and got some great boots at Charlotte Russe. They were $34.99, then the second pair was only $10! 2 pairs of boots for under $50!? Score!

Heritage 1981 also had a great clearance today, tons of cute tops all under $20.

Then I had to head over to Walmart to check out the new Miley and Max line. I got a great pair of leopard print faux Chucks, they were only $10 and super cute!

Does a little shop-therapy make anyone else feel absolutely wonderful?! :)

Fall Shoes Under $25!

In the beginning of spring, I posted some cute shoes all for under $25. I thought I should do the same for fall. It was a little more difficult to find cheap fall shoes, because boots are usually expensive. But leave it to my bargain shopper instincts to find boots at a low price (and ballet flats, pumps, etc.) :)

*PS: Walmart is probably your best bet for online shopping, because they offer a ship-to-store for free option, and it's only 97 cents to have it shipped to your house! Just keep that in mind!

Help Me Lauren Friday!

This Friday's Challenge comes from Awesome Sara. Sara's dilemma? She's single and ready to mingle, and wants an outfit that's sexy enough to catch the perfect guy! But sometimes sexy can be a little too trashy. I created the perfect look for Sara, and all for under $50!

Instead of a basic little black dress, I chose a little red dress for Sara. I always think of red being a color associated with sexiness. The dress is both sophisticated and sexy. Trick for Amazing Locks: Philosophy Amazing Grace Conditioner

This is by far the BEST thing I ever bought for my hair. After using it one time, my locks seemed instantly restored. Like many of you- I have damaged my hair to the extreme with coloring, blow drying, flat ironing, etc. Philosophy's conditioner made my hair shiny and even reduced my frizz!

It's a little more expensive than drugstore brands, at $21 for 16 oz. But believe me, it's worth it! You can buy it here at QVC (I believe Sephora carries it as well!).

PS: It leaves an amazing scent on your hair, that you'll smell all day long!

Last week I was on a weekend trip, and about 30 minutes into the drive I realized I forgot my makeup bag! So I stopped at CVS and grabbed whatever cheap Wet 'n Wild makeup I could find. One of the items turned out to be the best eyeshadow I've bought in awhile. It comes in a palette of 8 neutral shades. The best part about it is that it stays on ALL day! It stays on and looks better than any expensive shadow that I have from Sephora or Ulta. And did I mention it only costs $4.99!!

Yesterday I was reading the Cheap Chica's blog and saw that she got some amazing deals at Kmart. I know what you're thinking- Kmart Yuck! But really, they have some amazing finds. I picked up a few items to add to my fall wardrobe. All of the clearance prices for an ADDITIONAL 40% OFF!!! Can't beat that!

First this sailor-inspired top was only $4.20! It's super cute!

I also picked up a few more basics, all for under $4!

The best deal I think though, is the clearance on scarves! Tons of trendy scarves, and they're all under 4 bucks as well.

I'm not sure when the sale ends, probably today or tomorrow (8/2).

Little Black (Summer) Dresses

Black is one of my favorite colors, so naturally I own many Little Black Dresses (aka LBD). But every time I mention wearing black in the summer, my friends frown upon me. "YOU CAN'T WEAR BLACK IN THE SUMMER!" They yell at me. But really think about it, why would I want to buy trendy, hot summer colors when I won't be able to wear them again next year. Go ahead, call me boring, but I like my clothing to be versatile! LBDs are the perfect piece to have in your closet for summer. Paired with some awesome bright colored flip flops and a hot summer hair-do, LBDs are great for summer weddings, grad parties, barbeques, etc!

Oh and one more thing... The best part of LBDs are that they can easily be transformed into the fall and winter seasons. Bright tights and cardigans create totally new looks!

I'm a sucker for brooches, especially big flowered ones. They dress up any outfit! Sometimes, I like to bobby pin them in my hair too (definitely jazzes up a boring pony tail!). I just found the cutest new flower brooch at Via Maris NYC! It's plastic! Usually faux flower brooches are cloth and are damaged very easily. Better yet, it's only $30!

Tommy Bahama: Young and Hip?!

So I recently read in WWD that Tommy Bahama is attempting to transform their women's line in order to make it more appealing to the under 35 crowd. I always thought of Tommy Bahama as being a brand for middle-aged people going on vacation. Being (well) under 35 myself, I figured it was a good idea to check it out and see if they are successfully fulfilling their plan. First, I tried to visit the actually Tommy Bahama store, but the awful smell of coconut made me so queasy that I had to leave. When I visited their website I was surprised to find many items that I would actually buy. There are tons of cute sundresses! I'm not sure how well they fit... I will try to face my fears and enter the store with the dreaded coconut aroma. Stay tuned for more info. In the meantime, check out the site! Here are my picks:

I fumbled upon Sweetie Pie Jewelry the other day in a search to find a faux pearl necklace, like the one Audrey wears in the beginning of Breakfast at Tiffany's. I didn't find what I was looking for, but I did find a great site for affordable but not "cheap" jewelry. Although, I have yet to order anything, has anyone purchased jewelry from Sweetie Pie? I am absolutely obsessed with Breakfast at Tiffany's. Remember that awesome half bathtub she used in lieu of a couch? Well I have finally found a site that sells one. It's not exactly the same that was in Holly Golightly's apartment (with hot pink and purple cushions), but it sure is adorable! It costs 1850 Euros, anyone know how much that is in dollars?

Forever 21 Goes Plus Sized

FINALLY! It's about time that Forever 21 picked up on the fact that we're not all an extra small! They just came out with a new line "Faith 21" that offers sizes XL-3XL. I don't think that the top dogs at Forever 21 realize that they manufacture clothes for 12 year old girls. I'm not even a "plus sized" girl, and I barely fit into the large. This is why I'm so excited for this new line. The downside? It's only available online and in select stores. Hopefully this catches on and is available in all stores very soon. Spring 09 Runway Trend...The Real Way.

A huge trend on the runway for this spring is mixing a pop of bright colors with neutrals, like black. Such as this look by Lanvin. But you don't have to be a celebrity to pull off this trend. This is a great trend that can easily be accomplished with basics already existing in your wardrobe! Just take that old black skirt (or shorts, pants, etc.) and add a basic tee or tank to it. Old Navy and H&M have great basics in bright trendy colors for under $15. What an awesome way to transform your winter black clothes into spring basics and be fashion-forward in this tough economy. Not up for creating your own look? Nordstrom has this great color block dress in four different colors for just $48! It's super cute, the quality isn't great, but it should last through the season. I suggest sticking to buying bright basics to add to your existing neutrals, saves more money and both neutrals and basic color tees never go out of style!

Swine Flu Made Trendy?!

Yes, you read that correctly. Only in America would we take something as serious as the Swine Flu and make it "cool". The hottest new, up and coming accessories are decorative surgical masks. So far, there is no word on where to buy such contraptions... I believe most people are decorating their own. If anyone actually sees these for sale somewhere, please let me know where! What will they think of next?

Great Nails...Without the Salon Price!

For years I have struggled to find the perfect nail color. No matter how much I spend for drugstore brands, they ALWAYS chip off within the first hour or so. I thought that the only way to achieve gorgeous nails was to go to the salon and pay $20+ for someone else to do them for me. But I just recently learned that manicurists don't have a special, magic touch- it's the nail polish that they use! Most salons use OPI. I just recently tried this brand and fell in love with it. My nails look like I payed good money for them. The best part of OPI is all the great colors that it comes it. I'm a sucker for red, so my I recommend Chick Flick Cherry (the name explains itself). It costs about $8 a bottle, but think about how much you'll be saving in salon visits! Right now Ulta is running a sale on OPI, it's buy 2 bottles, get 1 free! So get off your computer and go buy yourself some nail polish that won't chip in the pool this summer!
